Here are a few things editors at Mills & Boon look for:
- A cracking opening, a middle section that keeps you turning the pages, and a satisfying ending that lingers in the reader’s mind.
- A likeable, convincing heroine who captures your imagination, and a strong hero you’d love to fall in love with.
- Pure romance - be it warm and tender or passionate, your story should capture the rush of excitement as the couple strive to overcome the emotional barriers keeping them apart.

Rules Entry implies acceptance of these rules. Entries must be typed (on A4 or equivalent size paper), in doublespace. Story must be no greater than 1,500 words. No purchase necessary. Entrants must be aged 18 years or older, and must be resident in the UK and Republic of Ireland. The closing date for entries is 5th September 2008. Entry forms must be signed by the entrant. Entrants will be the sole authors and prior to entry the owners of the entries. Entries cannot have been published or broadcast in any medium, or entered in any previous and/or current competition.employees of IPC Media, Harlequin Mills & Boon Limited or any other company connected with the competition, and their families, are not eligible to enter. Proof of postage cannot be accepted as proof of delivery. No responsibility can be accepted for entries that are illegible, incomplete, non- compliant, misdirected, lost, delayed or damaged in the post. All entries become the property of IPC Media and Harlequin Mills & Boon Limited and will not be returned. Entries will be judged by a panel of staff from Woman’s Weekly and Harlequin Mills & Boon Limited. The winning entry will be published in spring 2009 in Woman’s Weekly and on www.millsandboon.co.uk at the discretion of the organisers. An assignment of copyright in the entries (ie, a transfer of all copyright in the entries) will be a condition of entering the competition. For the avoidance of doubt, IPC Media and Harlequin Mills & Boon Limited reserve the right to publish any entry in Woman’s Weekly or in connection with the competition, without payment of any fee. Entrants agree that their name and photo may be published, without payment of any fee, in connection with publicity for this competition, in Woman’s Weekly, any publications of Mills & Boon and elsewhere, at the organisers’ discretion. No correspondence will be entered into. The decision of the judges is final. Winners will be notified by post by way of an official letter from Woman’s Weekly after the closing date. No cash alternatives. Only one prize per person. |
