The Rake of Hollowhurst Castle
Elizabeth Beacon
Historical
August 2011
Sir Charles Afforde: the infamous devilish rake has purchased Hollowhurst Castle lock, stock and barrel. All that is left to possess is the castle’s determined and beautiful chatelaine. Roxanne Courland: her youthful, romantic dreams of Charles were shattered long ago, and this unconventional country miss would rather stay a spinster than enter a loveless marriage… Only this rake’s devastatingly sensual onslaught is impossible to resist!
Pleasanr but slow paced.

Rating"Although on the whole I enjoyed this and it did give a feel for the period I thought it was slightly slow paced.
Roxanne was an empathetic heroine but I really couldn't take to Sir Charles at all - while not outwardly overbearing he just had to have everything his own way and quietly manipulated everything in this direction.
Six out of ten "

Rating"I think this one was hard to rate. It's one of my favourite topics (long-time love and friendship) but it wasn't very well written. Parts of the story is very sweet and the writing seem to improve as the story unfolds, but it's not very original. The characters are strong but tend to repeat themselves and be rather silly.
I usually love Elizabeth Beacons stories, but I think in this case she must've had an off day."
