Rating"Mrs Winters is the consummate story-teller but the plot wherein an orphaned boy forms an obsession with the Ranger who was involved in his parent's deaths is very disturbing - particularly in the current climate - as is the fact that the Ranger forms an attachment to him.
While the characters are well-rounded the child also throws tantrums and uses his behaviour to control the heroine (his aunt) and get his own way.
A very bewildering novel.
